"dragging" the bat through the zone

My 11 year old son has always been able to hit to all fields. Lately I've noticed that he will sometimes "drag" the bat through the zone. Often the ball is hit hard but I see him having a difficult time with catching up to the harder throwers. I have worked hard with him on his lower body mechanics and have done a lot of one hand (top&bottom) "soft toss". Any suggestions? He throws right, hits left.

Its tough to hit faster pitching but the best way to get him up to speed (literally) is to get him in a cage and have him take good but quick swings until he gets it right. Also tell him to load up earlier so that way he can be ready for the pitch and also to watch the ball all the way in from the pitcher's hand to the catcher's mitt. Also check that he is snapping his hips around, the hips lead the hands as Ted Williams said, and focus on being quick not just hitting the ball hard, bat speed leads to power, not the other way around.
