How can i improve my first step quickness as an infielder?

Frozen Ropes Staff says:

First step quickness has more to do with how quickly you visually process the ball put in play rather than the physical skill of moving your feet.

Fielders looking for improved quickness should make sure their head is not moving when the ball is entering the strike zone. A stable head will allow a better image to be processed by the brain as to where the ball is hit on the bat and the exit trajectory of the hit ball. Remind your fielders to avoid breaking down into a fielder's position too early as this will effect their horizontal range of motion.

Improved running mechanics along with staying on the balls of the feet as you prepare to "read" the pitch, will also help fielding speed.
