September 2013

Congratulations to the Frozen Ropes So. Cal. Warriors 18u Travel Team for their championship this past weekend at the Xtreme Sports Grand Slam Classic in Orange County.  The Warriors went undefeated in the tournament, winning the championship game against the So. Cal. Owls 10-0 after beating No Fear 4-1 in the semifinals.

For interested High School players, the Warriors are looking for a few high level players (2014 to 2016 grads) to complete their roster for their upcoming Fall 2013 tournaments as well as the Summer 2014 season.

The Warriors are committed to providing their players with the best coaching and playing opportunities as well as reliable guidance through the college recruiting process in orderto maximize players' chances for quality opportunities to play at the collegiate level.  Ten of the Warriors players from the 2012-2013 season are now competing in their freshman seasons at the collegiate level.

Head Coach Ron Witmeyer, a former Major Leaguer with the Oakland A's and 2-time College World Series Champion at Stanford University as a player, has 10 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level where he has served as a hitting coach and recruiter at both Stanford and Cal.  Ron has recruited and coached over 60 professional players and more than a dozen major leaguers including 2013 major leaguers Allen Craig (Cardinals), Josh Satin (Mets), Brennan Boesch (Yankees), John Baker (Padres), and Conor Jackson (Rangers).  His experience as a college recruiter and relationships with an extensive network of college coaches can be invaluable for players hoping to continue their playing careers beyond the high school level.

Coach Jessie Orosco, will be working with the pitchers.  A 24 year veteran of Major League Baseball and 2 time World Series champion, Jesse holds the all-time MLB record for most games pitched with 1,252. He pitched most notably for the New York Mets in the 1980s and his clutch relief pitching in the 1986 postseason was one of the key reasons the Mets were World Champions.   Jessie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Warriors.

The upcoming Fall schedule consists of the following tournaments:

October 5th-6th           USABF Columbus Classic- San Diego County

October 17th-20th       Arizona Junior Fall Classic - Peoria, Az

October 26th-27th       Under Armour So. Cal. Classic

November 2nd-3rd      USABF Veterans Day Classic- San Diego County

Both the Arizona Junior Fall Classic and Under Armour So. Cal. Classic are showcase type tournaments that are attended and scouted by dozens of college programs.  This is an opportunity to be seen and to create opportunities to play at the next level.  A few open spots still remain to fill out these rosters.

The Summer 2014 schedule will be released early next year but will be comprised of some of the top events in the country for both competitiveness and exposure to college baseball programs.

If you are interested in a tryout for the team, please call General Manager Tony Fernandez directly at 760-715-0706

"A Frozen Ropes Story"

November 2011

Game Overview: Ropes 8, Waves 7

Frozen Ropes was down 6-1 in the 3rd inning after a collection of walks, errors and passed balls. Ropes rallies in the 5th inning for 4 runs making the game Waves 6, Frozen Ropes 5. After giving up only 1 more run to the Waves, the game was 7-5 entering the last inning. In the top of the 6th inning Ropes leads off the inning with 2 walks, Sam #33 gets a 1 out single to tie the game 7-7. Sam steals second with Mike #28 at the plate. Mike had twisted his ankle scoring at home in the previous inning and could barely walk into the batters box. Mike pulls a hit down the third base line while Sam is stealing 3rd, the fielder makes a diving play and tries to get up to make the put out. Mike is hobbling down the line but the throw is late and the ball gets past the first baseman allowing the go ahead run to score, Frozen Ropes 8, Waves 7. Bottom of the sixth, Jansen #99 gets the first two outs of the inning easily and faces the third batter. The batter for the Waves battles Jansen for a 10 pitch walk and proceeds to steal second and third base. This put the tying run only 60 feet away. The hitter now has two strikes on him, Jansen pitches, a pass ball, Sam pounces on it flipping it to the covering Jansen at home making the final out to secure the win!!
