FIELD TESTING AND EVALUATION FOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PLAYERS

The Frozen Ropes Training Center in Portland has been testing individual baseball and softball players for the past 5 years. We recently have gathered information from our partners in college baseball and softball, as well as professional baseball, to get scores of players at the collegiate level and in professional baseball.  Field testing is a great way for players to get an indicator of where their present skill level is and where it needs to be in order to play at the college or even the professional level.  Each test measures a different aspect of overall strength, quickness, agility and flexibility and each has a direct effect on a players ability to perform baseball and softball skills properly.  Below is a list of the tests that we conduct on players:

  • 5-10-5 LATERAL AGILITY - Agility and body control.  Average HS players competes this test in 4.91 seconds.
  • LONG JUMP - Lower body power and explosiveness.
  • 10 YARD BURST - 1st step explosiveness, critical for all aspect of baseball and softball
  • 30 SECOND CONE - Repetitive firing, ability to repetitively generate  power
  • GRIP STRENGTH - Strong hands and forearms will aid in power and allow better grips on ball and bat
  • PUSH UPS/SIT UPS - measure core strength, lack of core strength reduces a players ability to perform skills needed to be successful
  • 60 YARD DASH - the measuring stick of all college coaches and professional scouts to determine speed.
  • BAT SPEED
  • BALL EXIT SPEED
  • THROWING VELOCITY

Contact us at 878-2600 and come and get your self evaluated and see how you  measure up.
