RAY DETWILER- Ray Detwiler joined our Frozen Ropes Summer Camp staff this year. Ray is a Chantilly HS grad and all-conference player at Radford University. At Chantilly, Ray was an All-District and All-Region middle infielder. He played for the 1991 CYA Little League Majors All-Stars that won Virginia State Tournament. Ray is currently a special education teacher at Fairfax HS. He has been an assistant head coach at Robinson HS and Fairfax HS. Teams that Ray has trained have shown marked improvement.
DAN MELVIN- Dan Melvin joined the Frozen Ropes staff in January 2010. Dan was a standout middle infielder for the University of Maryland graduating in 2007. Originally from Stafford, VA, Dan was one of the top recruits in Virginia his senior year at Stafford HS. He played for the Orioles East Coast Scouts Showcase team and played for several years on Mark Harris' Harris Rangers team that won a national amateur championship. He's previously coached travel baseball in the area and will be our 14u Frozen Ropes Fall team head coach. Click here for his Maryland player bio.
MATT WHITE- Matt returns for his 3rd summer running camps at Frozen Ropes. He'll stay on in September as a senior instructor leading classes, lessons and team training programs. Matt is a graduate of Clarion University where he was the 2 year starting catcher and sometime relief pitcher (ask him about his 90+mph heat). He hit .310 during those 2 years with 6 HR and 60 RBI's. He served one year as a graduate assistant coach at Clarion. He started his collegiate career at Potomac State Junior College for 2 years where he hit .300 with 70 RBI's. He was Potomac State's starting catcher and played in the JUCO World Series. Matt grew up in State College, PA where he starred at State College HS leading his team to the PA State Championship game. He was 1st team All-District and 1st team All-State. Matt has also instructed at our Frozen Ropes National Baseball Camp at Cape Cod twice.
TRAVIS JOHNSON- Pitching instructor. Travis was a 2 sport star at Annandale HS where he was an All-District/Region/State 2 time Honorable Mention All-Met QB and third baseman/pitcher in baseball. Travis played on the nationally competitive Harris Rangers travel team while in high school. He continued his dual sport playing at Liberty University where he played QB & pitcher. After one year at Liberty, Travis moved on to the Big South Conference powerhouse University of South Alabama and dropped football to concentrate on baseball. He pitched in relief in 23 games his senior season in 2008.
JON LINK- Baseball Pitching Instructor- 2009/10 - Jon returns for his second winter as a pitching instructor at Frozen Ropes. Jon Link is a relief pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2009 he pitched in Spring Training with the Chicago White Sox then landed at Class AAA Charlotte Knights where he was the closer. In 2008, Jon was named Minor League Reliever of the Year posting 36 saves at Class AA Birmingham Barons in the Southern League. The Chantilly High School graduate was 1st team All District & All Region and drafted by Montreal Expos in 2002 MLB draft. While attending Bluefield College, Jon was 1st team all AAC, AAC Pitcher of the year and drafted by San Diego Padres in 2005. Summary of Jon's Pro career (click here for stats):
