What’s
the difference between ‘tools’ and ‘skills’?
Tools are the
physical gifts a player is born with.
Overall size, strength, agility, foot speed, arm strength,
hand/eye coordination, sense of balance and rhythm. Skills are the
abilities to field, throw with speed and accuracy, make hard
consistent contact and run the bases efficiently. Like power tools
in the basement or garage, many of us have them but we have not been
professionally trained how to use them. Therefore, we lack the
skills necessary to perform certain tasks that our tools are capable
of doing.
